Ikamva Labantu works with and assists affiliated community-based organisations serving various sectors of the population: children, youth, adults, families, seniors and the disabled. These programmes interlink to ensure that critical needs of the communities served are comprehensively and effectively met.

Ikamva Labantu employs social workers, occupational therapists, community fieldworkers, professional nurses and others depending on the skills required to achieve its goal. Ikamva Labantu works closely with its communities and builds partnerships with existing local organisations to maintain community ownership and direction.

Seniors

We run community centres that provide meals, exercise, craft making, food growing, practical assistance and special events for older people. Very often, these are grandparents raising Aids orphans and desperately need our support.

Early Childhood Development

We give economically deprived children a head start. To this end, we train educators and parents and provide practical, emotional and nutritional support to thousands of children at hundreds of daycare centres.

Economic improvement

We provide the raw materials and marketing tools for people to make and sell dolls, clothes and souvenirs. We train partially sighted people with marketable skills. We provide the tools, land and information needed for people to grow their own food.

Youth

We leave no child behind — providing computer skills, counselling, career guidance and training to thousands of vulnerable school age children.

Family services

We support the extended families raising the millions of Aids orphans in South Africa. We provide practical, emotional and financial support to these quiet heroes.
